Boat speed is an important factor when it comes to travelling on a boat. It is usually measured in knots and is often referred to as STW or SOG. STW stands for Speed Through Water which is the speed of the boat in relation to the water. SOG, or Speed Over Ground, is the speed of the boat in relation to the ground. This is usually affected by the current of the ocean water. Knowing the difference between STW and SOG is essential to ensure that you reach your destination in a timely manner.
